The word “instrumental” means is that the music is played only by instruments other than the original instrument (the human voice). If you added a choir that sang only “aah”, it would still be called “vocal”, because it is radically different from mechanical instruments, which must be pounded (drums), scraped (violins), blown into (flutes), or moist the trumpets in order to make music.
