Indonesia: Rights group protests destruction of indigenous forests by nickel mining

Description

According to Survival International, a human rights catastrophe is unfolding on Halmahera island (North Maluku province) where logging and nickel mining operations are penetrating the rainforest of the Hongana Manyawa people. Nickel is used in electric car batteries, Halmahera now hosts the world's largest nickel ore mine, which is owned/operated` by Indonesian, French and Chinese companies.
