Tanzania: Maasai people resist plans to evict them for trophy hunting tourism

Description

Two Maasai herdsmen and a policeman were killed during a clash between police and Maasai herders protesting renewed government efforts to evict them from their traditional grazing grounds in Loliondo near the Serengeti National Park. According to the government this is in order to create a wildlife protection area. The Maasai and Rights groups however believe the real reason is to lease the area for trophy hunting & luxury safari to a foreign corporation
