Italy: Fairbnb secures 1m funding

Description, an "ethical holiday rental" cooperative startup has announced that it has raised €1 million in a year-long fundraising campaign to build “the future of community-powered tourism”. The campaign was supported by mutual funds Fondo Sviluppo and Coopfond and asset management company SEFEA Impact. Like other platforms, charges a 15 per cent commission on each booking. It uses half to cover operating expenses and donates the other half of its revenue to fund local community and social projects. The platform is currently active in cities and regions across Italy, such as Rome, Florence, Bologna, Venice and Liguria.
